This is my first tutorial! So If you have any additional questions feel free to ask!! (=^・^=)
Disclaimer: This is just how I made my wings...It probably isnt the best or most efficient way...Feel free to improve on it! If you find a better way let me know too!!! I tried to do a lot of research before I did mine...there's a lot I would have done differently still ( ;´Д`)
Also, I looked around a lot on the web first...found a lot of great wing cosplays!! Idk..for me, I still found it somewhat difficult on making wings of my own, but here are some pages that helped me out a lot!
HCC cosplay has a full tutorial! Very helpful on getting a handle on wings
Cupcakecosplay was my inspiration on heat bending the pvc pipes cuz I seriously never knew you could bend pvc pipes lol
and lastly, thank you Ninjakitten for your WIPs because it really helped me with my own wings!
Starting off with Tools and Materials I used:
Tools: Materials: (Home Depot)
| This is not a picture of everything I bought because....I have a horrible time remembering everything....and made several trips back and forth to Home Depot (right Terri??? OTL) |
Building the Base:
because I did use power tools, I made sure to keep safe!!!
The safety glasses to protect my eyes from flying debris and the mask to make sure I dont breathe in anything...I actually ended up buying a better mask a little later cuz yeaa SAFETY FIRST
Also, I did take Tech Lab in school before so I had a better understanding of using drills and such...So if you are unfamiliar, I'd suggest asking someone to show you and to be supervised (at least until you are more confident).
You will need to heat and bend your PVC pipe to shape. Please do this in a ventilated area and wear a mask for precaution. My friend Ken told me that when heated PVC pipes release something toxic!!
I held the heat gun for about 20 sec on each side of the part I wanted to bend....I tried not to burn mine...cuz again I'm scared of that "something toxic".
You will need to grab your Sliding door assembly parts and mark where you need to cut/drill to attach it to your PVC pipe.
At this point, I ended up heating and bending the PVC pipes to make them more rounded so they werent pointing straight out toward the sides, but rounded forward like real wings! <3
I orginially chose an acrylic sheet (BAD CHOICE BECAUSE IT SNAPPED)
SO I ended up using a Lexan Plexiglass because it said SHATTER PROOF all over it (remember I'm a noob and I was doing this by trial and error LOL)
SAFETY FIRST!!!
So you'll need your power tool again to cut the shape out (make sure to sand so no sharp edges are poking out..this is going on your back!) Then you'll need your tool to drill the holes in their appropriate places to attach the flag poles AND the d ring holders (for attaching the back to your harness).
