As a reward to myself, I went to the Fabric District today! I know last time I said no to DT LA...but really, the prices are so much better than online =\ ...I'm such a cheapskate >_<
So I was able to pretty much buy everything I need! and all within about $100....I just love LA haha
If anyone was wondering how to get to the fabric district, I pretty much take the 10 and exit San Pedro, go all the way down toward 9th, make a left onto 9th and head toward Maple St, which is where all the action is! :D There's plenty of parking for an average of $5 for all day.
My first stop was BEADS & TRIM (741 Maple Ave):
I bought an entire roll of lace trim for $8 (originally $24 but they had a sale?...which idk they had a sale every time Ive been there before...they're just always some sort of sale?)
I also got some buckles ($1.50) and a some chains ($1.50) for Franky's jacket.
Next, I bought some satin from ______
2 yrds dark gray, and 6 yrds white ($2/yrd)
I bought some cording/trimming for Zhou Yu and some invisible zippers for a total of $4 from _____.
If they had more things I needed I'd go back, the owner was pretty nice and gave me a nice deal.
Some white fur scraps ($4) for Luffy's jacket...this was the corner shop of 9th and Maple...the store owner was an ass though, if I didnt need this stupid fur I wouldnt have bought it from him! hmph
Everyone else who had fur could only sell it by the yrd...but I really only needed a little! and each was like $12-18/yrd -___-"
I've run out of thread and so I really needed to buy some!
I got a bunch of the serger cones for $1.25 each
and a few invisible zippers for $0.50/0.75 each depending on the length.
This store has more of the feel of a real store and not so much wholesale? So they have a cash register at the front and along with the "legit" feel, comes tax..but it's no biggie. It's just so much nicer when you dont have to pay those extra few dollars that you could you to buy another yrd =P
I stopped by Beads & Trims (but located elsewhere...It looks like they're owned by the same owner? IDK)
but I bought some gray fur strip things...I'm not quite sure what they are, but I'm going to use them for Etrian Odyssey.
They were about 2 yrds each and $3 each...I bought 2 for a total of $6/2yrds.
My final stop was SILK CITY (305 E. 9th St, #120)
This is the store where I usually buy my fabric. I always come back here because I've been here before and I know the prices and the owner usually caves in when I ask for a little bit of a cheaper price.
The fabric I buy is just polyester...I'm not sure if its 100% or not...all he told me was that it was polyester. It frays like crazy, but its decent and gets the job done for about $1.50/yrd..I think I should be able to get it cheaper next time tho...hm....
I got 10 yrds of black, 10 yrds of white, 5 yrds of red, and 5 yrds of light pink.
Also, because the polyester fabric didnt have the right color, I got 3 yrds of a darker shade of pink and 3 yrds of yellow of a different fabric that was originally $3.99 but I got it for $2.
My total came out to be $57 plus tax...yes he taxes :( but I just ended up paying $60.
NOT BAD right?? I got so much fabric I can pretty much mess up and still be okay!
Man oh man! I got there about 11am and left around 3pm. My feet hurt, I should parked closer >_<
I think I got a lot done though! I seriously cant wait to start my cosplays! My friends have been working so hard, getting ready for Katsucon and all...Ah! I cant wait to see their pictures!
I just gotta make sure I'm all ready for when Fanime starts coming around the corner!
